Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust is the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK and among the largest in Europe. The Trust works from two main sites, Royal Brompton Hospital in Chelsea and Harefield Hospital near Uxbridge.
The Trust required an upgrade to its power infrastructure to provide a reliable 5MVA supply so that addional new, high tech medical systems and services could be introduced.
ICW Power undertook to design, manufacture, install and commission a turnkey power solution consisting of two 1600 kVA transformers, interlinking busbars, 4000A main LV switchboard and a generator synchronisation switchboard. The solution had to fit within an existing switchroom.
The £0.5m contract was successfully implemented whilst the hospital continued to deliver service as usual with no power interruptions.
